2008 Golden Cultural Alliance Sweethearts:
Bill and Charlene Pazar

For ten years, the Golden Cultural Alliance has recognized a couple that has been particularly involved in volunteering, promoting, and enhancing Golden’s Cultural Community. This year, the Golden Cultural Alliance has elected to honor Bill and Charlene Pazar, who for the past twenty years have had a major hand in organizing Buffalo Bill Days.

Buffalo Bill Days was created by the Golden Chamber in the 1950s. In the 1980s the event fell into limbo as it was decided which organization should assume the responsibilities of producing Golden’s largest community event. In 1989, the City Council appointed an autonomous board to run Buffalo Bill Days. Bill was appointed to that committee and has maintained a leadership role ever since. Every year Bill coordinates entertainment and sponsorship, oversees logistics and set up, and arranges for community volunteers to participate in this display of City pride. Simultaneously, Charlene has taken on the role of Parade Coordinator. Who among us has not been to more than one parade, ridden on a float, or enjoyed the music in Parfet Park?

As if coordinating this huge event weren’t enough, the Pazars have kept their hands in many of Golden’s cultural and community activities. As Secretary of the Lions Club, Bill has worked diligently to raise funds to facilitate community improvements for the Golden Parks Department. From benches to restrooms to gazebos, the Lions club has done great things in improving the quality of life for the people of Golden.

Charlene, too, has had her share of extra-curricular activities. She has been a member of the Jefferson Symphony Board from the early 90s until just last year, and was instrumental in their events and fundraisers. Charlene was on the City’s first Parks Board and Planning Commission. As a member of the Shady Ladies, a group of Victorian and pioneer era costumed interpreters, she has helped entertain crowds throughout Colorado.

And last, but not least, the Pazars belong to a Victorian Ballroom Dance group. They have had a big hand in producing the Cowboy Ball and the Buffalo Bill Birthday Bash. At press time, Charlene is struggling to pack her ball gowns for a Victorian Dance cruise.

The Golden Cultural Alliance thanks the Pazars for all their years of volunteering. Each of the Cultural Alliance organizations’ rely on volunteers like the Pazars to continue celebrating culture with the community of Golden. The Cultural Alliance is happy to have the Pazars join the ranks of the wonderful GCA sweethearts.
